ITIL v2 is at its "end of days". The demise of examinations and the publication of the core v2 texts (Service Support and Service Delivery) has been announced.
It is a time of emmotional response by many; annoyed at the way the decision has been made to withdraw the v2 Foundation exams in June 2010 and the v2 Managers Exams in August 2010 and the v2 Practitioner exams in December 2010.
The decision was simply announced, but this ITIL v3 Expert doesn't understand what all the fuss is about. We were told that we'd be given 6 months notice and we've got that. There is talk that the 6 months notice was to be 12 months, but I must admit 6 months seems plenty enough.
Sure there will be some that have plans that are going to now be disrupted, but in a world of change; we must all be prepared for change and have the skill set to deal with it as it comes up.
The v2 to v3 Foundation bridge will also be withdrawn at the end of December 2010 and the v2 to v3 Managers bridge disappears at the end of June 2011.
I am currently working in Kenya. A nation of football fanatics. Soccer is perhaps like a religion here and even in Kenya, it is accepted that when the referees whistle blows the game is over. We are now into extra time for ITIL v2 and the game ends soon.
