ISO 38500 - IT Governance
One of the latest publications from the International Standards Organisation (ISO) is ISO/EC 38500 - IT Governance. This standard is based on Australian Standard AS 8015 - Australian Standard for Corporate Governance of ICT.

The standard was required following major corporate collapes (e.g. one.tel).

At the heart of AS 8015 and ISO 38500 are 5 basic fundamental principles:

  1. To have clearly understood responsibilities for ICT

  2. ICT to be planned to provide the best support for the organisation

  3. ICT services to be acquired validly

  4. Be sure that ICT performs suitably, whenever required

  5. Be sure ICT conforms with formal rules and policies

  6. Be sure ICT takes into account human factors
